Brick

I did my first brick workout this weekend and it was just as hard as I thought it would be (i.e. a lot).

A brick for the non-triathlon folks, is when you do two of the tri disciplines back to back. I did cycling and running. I did 8 miles on the bike and then 1.5 miles on the jogging trail, so just about half of the distance for the actual race.

I think the most disconcerting thing about it was getting off the bike (and feeling so very relieved because I was not exactly loving the bike on Saturday…my legs were dead from the beginning thanks to a long ride on Thursday night and then an afternoon spent walking for hours in 90 degree weather at the state fair) and starting to run on legs that felt very, very unsteady. It such a strange and wobbly feeling. I’m sort of dreading what that will feel like after twice as long a ride.

I’m about a month out from the race and am feeling more and more confident that I’ll be able to finish, which is a good feeling though not one that has me less nervous

In other news…

Speedy?

Speedy?

If I can get it cleaned up, tuned up and ready to ride, I may ride my husband’s bike instead of mine. It is a 20 year Bianchi Brava and was,  back in the day, a pretty decent racing bike. It weighs a lot less than the bike I’m currently using, so it could really help with the bike portion.
