You decide (Plus Give away!)

So, the pickings are rather slim for events to do in December and January (probably because the average temperature for Iowa in December is “Brrr” and the average temperature for January is “Damn it is cold”) but I have found a prospect for this month and that is where you come in.

The race I have in mind offers 2 options: a 2 mile or a 4 mile. Which should I do? 2 miles to work on my speed? 4 miles to work on endurance?

Leave me your vote in the comments and the majority wins. Voting ends next week or whenever I have to sign up for the race (don’t you love clearly defined deadlines like that?).

I will choose, in some random fashion,  a winner from the comments and that lucky person will get a special little Christmas something in the mail (prize to be revealed when winner is announce. But don’t get too excited. I’m not Oprah. The prize will not be a car or anything cashmere. Think smaller and tastier).

Also doing some random picking

I want to win! I say you do the two miler. I think speedwork is something we all know we need to do, but gets neglected. A 2 miler seems like it would be fun. You start and then the next thing you know you are done!

I vote for the 4-miler. It is certainly getting colder in the midwest and, for me, that means my long runs outside are getting fewer and fewer. What greater motivation than a race?

I vote for the 4-miler only because it might be better if you are going to continue to run with your hubby/do triathalons. Also because I want to win something tasty. 🙂

Hmmm, what is the distance for January’s race? If its longer, than go for the 2 miler for December. Its not often that short distance races like that are offered and would be a great excuse to work on speed!

I don’t know where you are in Iowa and therefore how far you are from Mpls/St.Paul but we have a Half Marathon January 23rd (The Frozen Half) and another February 7th (The Hypothermic Half) if you want to make the trip!

I vote for 2 miles. When you are out there in the cold you will want to run even faster and it will be a great morale boost!

4 miler! You’ll feel all ‘bad to the bone’ completing a 4-miler in Brr weather, PLUS imagine how awesome a hot bath or shower will feel afterwards when you’re out of the Brr. That’s precisely why I’m heading out for a run right now. 🙂

I like to beat my previous times so I’m going to say focus on the 2 mile. I did a 2 mile fun run last weekend and it was fun to push myself harder over a shorter distance.

Not a runner but I have lived through a few cold Iowa winters and the less time you spend out in the cold, the better!! I vote for the 2 miler–still long enough for a good run but your lungs need to be defrosted when you are done!

Hmm…sending out something edible as your giveaway–Dutch letters from Pella by any chance? Or some Anderson Erickson Old Fashioned Cottage Cheese?

    1) Love the name of your blog
    2) You are brave for doing either in that cold ass weather!! I say do the 2 miler only b/c if you are going to work on speed you will warm up faster! Have fun 🙂
