Young Man, Young Man

So, I joined the YMCA today and though it has caused me to walk around humming the YMCA song under my breath all day, I am pretty excited about it.

There is a YMCA that is about four miles from our house and a different one that is two miles from my new job, which I’ll be starting next month. Both have indoor pools (which are hard to find in Iowa) and nice facilities. I signed up the kiddo two so I’ll be able to take him swimming all year round, which will give us another cold weather activity.

I’ve had gym memberships in the past, some that I’ve used religiously and some that…uh…have not exactly been money well spent so I’m determined to go at least three times a week so that I’m getting my money’s worth. I’m also determined to push myself out of my comfort zone and actually try some classes, maybe spinning or kettlebells.

Next task: getting my mind around the thought of exercising in the morning, which might be my best plan when the new job starts. I hate *HATE* hate waking up early but I might just have to suck it up.

I used to belong to a family YMCA. Every time I said something to my mom about the YMCA, she had to correct me – “You mean YWCA.” I got tired of explaining and I know she just didn’t want people thinking I was going to a scuzzy gym full of indigent men.

I bet the excitement/novelty of a new gym will make you that much more likely to go in. I know it would me! Good luck with the new job and new routine.

Love, love, love the Y near my house. It’s pricey compared to other gyms in the area but so worth it if for no other reason than the 2 hours of free child care I get while I work out and the huge array of class offerings. Yeah for the Y!
